The Foundation Stage Co-ordinator and Inclusion Manager visit all new entrants in their home setting during the half term before they start Nursery. Prior to transferring to school, Reception staff speak to staff from the child’s previous setting and visit children who have not attended the school nursery.
Parents and children are also invited to visit the Reception classes and stay for ‘Tea at Meadows’. Children and parents have;
An initial information giving meeting discussing the school prospectus with the Head, Deputy Head, Foundation Stage Co-ordinator and Inclusion Manager for parents.
A morning session for the children to work in the Reception class and meet staff. Nursery staff support in the reception class for these sessions.
Reception children begin school on the same day as the rest of school but have a part time timetable for the first week.
Where pupils have additional needs on entry to Nursery or to Reception, a deferred entry may be agreed in discussion with parents, the Headteacher and other agencies.
Pupils with additional needs who join our school, either at the beginning of the year or during the academic year, will be supported, as appropriate, so that a successful transition is achieved.
The school works together with the Local Authority where a child is starting our school with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to ensure that they are appropriately supported in
conjunction with parents.
