Special Educational Needs/Disabilities

The SEN code of Practice reflects the new statutory framework 2014 for inclusion and describes a graduated approach to matching provision for pupil’s special educational needs.

The SEND categories are:

  • Communication and interaction.
  • Cognition and learning.
  • Social, emotional well-being and mental health
  • Sensory and/or physical disability.

SEND provision includes any child who may require extra support because of needs in these categories. This will be provided at the following levels of support:

  • Through universal provision in classrooms using differentiated methods and resources

  • Through SEND support using interventions and specialist advice

  • Through the delivery of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

  • All children including those with special educational needs and those with disabilities admitted to the school have access to the full curriculum offered by the school.
