PE and Sport

At Meadows Primary School we aim to provide a balanced programme of activities that will contribute to each child’s physical and emotional development. We aim for children to enjoy physical education and the pursuit of sporting activities which will equip them for a healthy and active lifestyle.

Within the curriculum children take part in two hours P.E. each week covering the areas of dance, games and gymnastics. All classes within Key Stage 2 also take part in swimming lessons at HLC Secondary School. In 2020/2021, our school was awarded ‘Gold’ by the School Games Mark. This is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We were thrilled that our efforts, and those of the children, were recognised for the 4th year running!

We also provide children with opportunities with external coaches to enhance their skills and provide links with the local community such as Crossbar Coaching and Telford Tigers Ice Hockey, and have introduced more inclusive PE lessons such as boccia and goal ball.

All children within Year 6 have the opportunity to attend Arthog Outdoor Education Centre on the school residential and other year groups throughout the year have the opportunity to attend Arthog Outreach sessions.

As part of the schools games mark we also provide a number of ‘extra-curricular’ sport sessions and give the children the opportunity to attend a range of competitions against other Telford and Wrekin schools. We are part of the Telford and Wrekin School Sport Partnership and as such we adhere to their Competition Guidance and Safeguarding Policy. We also provide opportunities for intra school competitions such as small matches at the end of a PE unit, and whole school step challenges using the activity watches.
